Accused pleads not guilty to fraud charges |

A businessman accused of using the profits from the sale of his girlfriend's motor truck to his own benefit pleaded not guilty and had his bail extended when he appeared in court yesterday. The accused, Kamau Shand, 28, from a Kingston 6 address, has been charged with malicious destruction of property and fraudulent conversion. He is to return to court on May 26 when the matter will be mentioned. The complainant reported that she and the accused were in a relationship between November 2008 and March 9. Allegations are that, during the period, she asked him to sell a 2009 Toyota Coaster motor truck for $4.1 million. The alleged agreement was that he was supposed to take $100,000 for himself and use the remainder to pay down on a lot of land in Cherry Gardens. ended the relationship According to reports, on March 12, the accused turned up at the complainant's home because she had ended the relationship. When he was not invited in, he allegedly used an object to damage the window panes to the front of the house. Further allegations are that, on April 17 about 7:40 a.m., the complainant was abducted and assaulted by the accused along Old Hope Road, St Andrew. Subsequently the matter was reported to the police and on April 26, the accused turned himself in. When cautioned, he allegedly said, "Offica mi did a send money to her, I have proof." No order given in murder case A no order was made in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday in the matter involving a prostitute charged with murder. She is Angela 'Red Head' Bailey, 19, from a Maxfield Avenue, Kingston 13, address. On the last mentioned date the accused was granted bail, however, the matter was transferred to the Coroner's Court. The file was later sent back. The court heard that the accused had been unable to take up the bail offer, and has been in lock-up at Fort Augusta Adult Correctional Centre since last year. Allegations are that, on July 24, last year, Steve Richards paid the accused $1,000 for sex. Upon completion, he was not satisfied and demanded back his money. The accused refused to the refund and Richards went for a machete and confronted her, at which point she gave him back the money. Further allegations are that Richards slapped the accused on the shoulder, chopped her on the middle and index right fingers, and was about to chop her again when she pulled a scissors and stabbed him in the chest. |
