The Taxi Operator who was charged along with an Antiguan national for breaching the Dangerous Drugs Act was remanded when he appeared in court yesterday.

He is, Pernell Campbell, 50, from Lincoln Road, Kingston 16. Campbell was charged along with 22-year-old Tony Bright who was caught trying to board an outgoing flight at the Norman Manley International Airport.

Campbell has been charged with possession of ganja, dealing in ganja, taking preparatory steps to export ganja, conspiracy to export ganja and using his premises for the storage of ganja.

He is to return to court on May 24 for trial.

THE STAR understands that Bright, the co-accused, pleaded guilty and was sentenced on a previous occasion.

Allegations are that, on February 5 about 5 a.m., the police, armed with a warrant, raided premises in Kingston 16. Four silver and brown packages containing vegetable matter resembling ganja were found weighing approximately 8 1/4 lb.

The lawyer representing the accused made a bail application on behalf of her client, however, it was denied.

She argued that the packages were found in a room, underneath a bed occupied by more that one person.

However, according to police reports there were only two men in the room when the ganja was found.

The court also heard that the accused is also a suspect in a case of murder that is before the court.
