Bail was extended in court yesterday until May 26 for a Portland businessman accused of forging a letter from an American university in an attempt to obtain a non-immigrant visa from the United States (US) Embassy recently.

Jayadev Ravori, 31, from Buff Bay in the parish faced the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court charged with uttering forged documents.

Allegations are that on March 31, the defendant attended a non-immigrant visa interview at the consular section of the US Embassy on Old Hope Road in the Corporate Area.

He reportedly submitted a fraudulent letter allegedly issued by the University of Pennsylvania Medical Centre in his name.

A report was made to the police, and after an investigation into a case of forgery, he was charged on April 8.
