West Kingston erupted with celebration yesterday, as Tivoli Gardens were crowned 2010/2011 Digicel Premier League champions after defeating neighbours Boys' Town 1-0 at a packed Edward Seaga Sports Complex.

The mood at Lynch Park was a stark contrast, as sadness swept Portland as St Georges joined Benfica as the relegated teams from this season's completion, following their nil-all stalemate with Sporting Central Academy.

Tivoli's triumph sees them join Santos as the most successful team at the national-league level with five liens on the title.

Tivoli entered the final round of matches needing only to avoid defeat to reclaim the title, which they lost to Harbour View last season but garnered all three points courtesy of a 45th minute strike from national representative Navion Boyd. The win saw the champions finish on 72 points, four more than Boys' Town (68).

Glendon 'Admiral' Bailey, coach of Tivoli was thrilled to cop the title immediately after returning to coach following a two-year break.

"It is big joy to come back and win it right away after a two-year break," said Bailey, who was claiming his second national league title, the first of which was also with Tivoli in 2004 said. "For the entire season we have been battling; a lot of people doubted in the last, but we stuck together as a team and we worked hard," he added.

Despite only needing to avoid defeat, Tivoli went on the offensive and carved out the first chance of the game in the fifth minute when Keammar Daley played a beautiful through-ball to Boyd, but Boys' Town's custodian, Kirk Porter, was quick off his line to thwart the effort.

Boys' Town's best chance of the game fell to their captain, Michael Campbell, in the 34th minute. A square by Fabian Francis from the left flank eluded Tivoli's keeper, Edsel Scott, and found an unmarked Campbell on the back post, but he was unable to keep his effort down, which flew over the empty goal.

Boyd broke the deadlock on the stroke of half-time when he collected a ball in the area and in one motion turned his marker, Daemon Benjamin, before unleashing an unstoppable shot, which clipped the left upright on its way in.

St Georges were sent marching back to the Super League after four seasons in the top flight, as although finishing on the same number of points, as Humble Lion (46 points) they were relegated based on an inferior goal difference in head-to-head clashes with the Lions.

The Lenworth Hyde-coached Humble Lion, through goals from seven separate players, blanked the helpless Benfica 7-0.

In other matches, Harbour View clipped Portmore United 1-0 courtesy of a 43rd minute strike from Kamar Petrekin. The other top six encounters saw Waterhouse and Reno play to a nil-all draw.

Craig Foster netted his 15th goal of the season to lead Reno to a 1-0 win over Arnett Gardens.
