Jimmie, Star Racing Writer WAYNE DACosta's 'FLUFFY' worked like a machine Sunday morning and won't be beaten in Saturday's ninth race at 1500 metres. A week after losing by a short head to DANCE SO SWEET at 1200 metres two Saturdays ago, FLUFFY returned to the exercise track last Sunday morning, and blazed 1100 metres in 1:06.4, clocking 1:00.3 for the last five furlongs. The four-year-old American filly is slowly inching back to her best after returning off a four-month lay-up on January 30. Tomorrow's trip will be right up FLUFFY's street, as she prefers a slower backstretch pace. She was outsprinted by BRASH & SASSY at 1100 metres when she returned on January 30, and really had no chance against stablemate SIR VON at 1000 metres straight on March 26. On April 9, she charged at DANCE SO SWEET in a stirring stretch duel, but Panamanian Ameth Robles got his mount to rally to claim victory by a short head. There's no real speed in Saturday's race, and FLUFFY should be able to sit in the pace or probably make every post a winning one under lightweight Wesley Henry, with only 53.0 kilos in his back. Be bold this weekend and go for an accumulator - PRINCE ROHAN, MOJITO JAM, CLEVER CHEROKEE, CHAMPION LINKS, FLUFFY and MOLTEN KING. PRINCE ROHAN impressed at exercise Sunday morning at 1100 metres, 1:09.2, and will easily outstay GLOBAL WARMING and company at his favourite trip of 1820 metres. He won easily at the distance on January 30, humbling GLOBAL WARMING by four and a half lengths. Prior to that, he found only RAISE A RUCKUS better in his two previous races at 1820 metres. MOJITO JAM gets the nod over THE GREYT DOCTOR in the second, after his plucky defeat of CHADMAN at 1820 metres on April 6. It wasn't a bad final time, 2:00.0, and it certainly matches up better than THE GREYT DOCTOR's 1:16.2 for 1200 metres, which suggests that he had won a poor race on April 9. Philip Feanny's CLEVER CHEROKEE, a cinch for the third at 1200 metres, should easily win his third consecutive race, and ought to be followed until he comes up against the hotsteppers in open allowance. CHAMPION LINKS should outpace his fellow three-year-old maidens at 1300 metre in the sixth, after Saturday's effort against ATRAILOFTEARS at 1500 metres in which he led for the first half mile and was still third a furlong out. Meanwhile, MOLTEN KING is a winner back among maidens, after being disqualified when easily beating CARAZENYATTA on December 18. SELECTIONS: Prince Rohan, Mojito Jam, Clever Cherokee, Out for Justice, Sir South, Champion Links, Grand Cabaret, Orion, Fluffy, Molten King. |
