Star Tell Me Pastor

She gave my child to another man

Dear Pastor,

I am a regular reader of The Star and I love your column. I am asking you for your advice. I had a girlfriend and I got her pregnant. When she was three months pregnant, I lost my job and couldn't give her any money.

She began to talk to another man and that caused a fuss between us. The man took her up with the belly and supported her. I got another job. When I called her and told her I was working, she cursed me and told me she didn't want me because her man was minding her. They are living together.

She registered the baby in the man's name. She told some of my friends I am not the father of the child. I know that the child is mine. This is my first youth. I saved her from her stepfather and gave her money to go to school, and she gave my child to another man.

D.I., St Catherine

Dear D.I.,

This young woman says you are not the father of the child. Don't fight her. At least, not now. Be patient. Don't even think of trying to get her to agree to do a DNA test now. If you are the father of the child, she will find you and confess or, as the child grows up, the child will find you. He will want to know his father.

You may or not be the father of that child. You say you are sure you are the father of the child. Well, don't forget this is Jamaica, and lots of men who believed that they fathered children have been given 'jackets'.
