Rasbert Turner, Portmore Star Writer Following a no-confidence motion against Portmore Mayor Keith Hinds, a decision has been taken for a thorough discussion with councillors in the Portmore Municipal Council. "I understand it to be a motion. However, since I have the welfare of Portmore to take care of, if there is a problem, we need to find a middle ground," Hinds told THE PORTMORE STAR. The motion was tabled by Councillor Alrick Campbell of the Edgewater division at Wednesday's monthly council meeting. Campbell told his fellow councillors at the council, who were mostly People's National Party representatives, that the motion is as a result of many people in the council losing faith in the mayor. "His action does not foster any confidence, particularly for officers that conducted enforcement duties and other administrative duties," Campbell told THE PORTMORE STAR when asked about the motion he brought. He told THE PORTMORE STAR that the aim is not to oust the mayor from his chair, but to show that his action are not supported. "We are the majority and there are two Jamaica Labour Party councillors saying they will support the motion at next month's meeting," Campbell revealed. A number of persons told THE PORTMORE STAR that the motion would be an exercise in futility as Hinds is a directly elected mayor. |
