Christopher Thomas, Star Writer WESTERN BUREAU: Gerold Bailey, of a Montego Bay address, accused the police of mistreating him when he appeared in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday to answer to ganja charges. Bailey pleaded not guilty to smoking ganja and resisting arrest. The prosecution told Resident Magistrate (RM) Carolyn Tai that the case file is incomplete and requested two months to collect additional information. Bailey told RM Tai that on the day of his arrest earlier this month, he was working at Grove Village in Montego Bay when members of a police team approached him. He also claimed that the officers beat and manhandled him. RM Tai advised Bailey that he should go to the local Police Complaints Division and file a report of the alleged beating in order to get redress. He was also ordered to submit his fingerprints to the police. The matter is to be brought back before the court on June 9. |
