Campbell's surety increased |

President of the Bayside Minibus Association, Carl Campbell, had his bail increased from $600,000 to $1 million in the Spanish Town Criminal Court on Tuesday. Campbell, 40, of Bridgeport, St Catherine, is charged with defrauding two persons of over $600,000 to secure road licences for them. When the case was mentioned before Senior Resident Magistrate (RM) Marcia Dunbar-Green, Campbell pleaded not guilty. Investigating officer Detective Corporal Kirk Roache told the court that he collected $244,000 from one complainant and $394,600 from the other in March 2009. He said that during an operation in September last year in Portmore, St Catherine, the road licences of two Toyota buses were checked. The licences were found to be fake although bearing the signature of personnel at the Transport Authority. Investigations conducted resulted in the arrest and charge of Campbell. fraudulent conversion He was charged with two counts of fraudulent conversion, conspiracy to deceive, uttering forged documents and obtaining money by means of false document. He was granted station bail; however, the RM told him the court had to grant him bail. Bail was granted on condition he reports to the Bridgeport police daily and surrender his travel documents. He is to return to court on July 19. |
