Staff members at a high school in Clarendon are under scrutiny following speculation that numerous computers continue to be stolen from the institution. "There seems to be an insider in the school that has a set of keys for themselves ... it seems as if someone got a copy of the key because I change the locks and the thing keeps happening," the school's principal remarked. Information reaching THE STAR is that the last set of computers went missing between Thursday night and Friday morning of last week. To date, at least five computers, three laptops and two desktops and other computer accessories have been stolen since January and have yet to be recovered. no forced entry THE STAR understands that there has been no forced entry on any of the occasions and every month at least one computer has been reported stolen. The principal expressed his exasperation as he explained to THE STAR that despite the institution's security methods put in place to safeguard the equipment, they continue to go missing. "Three of the computers belong to the e-Learning programme and they are computers that we cannot afford to lose. It makes no sense anyone tries to purchase these because it is the property of the Jamaican Government," he added. He emphasised that each time an incident takes place, the police are apprised without delay but the culprit(s) are yet to be caught. "Each time, the thing happens, we report it to the police but I don't know why we can't catch the criminals," the principal also told THE STAR. The Spaldings police are investigating. |
