A 26-year-old man who allegedly stole a BlackBerry phone from a woman's veranda had his bail extended in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday.

He is August Gayle, from a Kingston 17 address, who has been charged with simple larceny.

Gayle, who is a mason by profession, is to return to court on May 11 when the matter will be mentioned.

Resident Magistrate Lorna Shelly Williams ordered Gayle to get a psychiatric evaluation.

Allegations are that on January 15 about 10:15 a.m., the complainant left her BlackBerry on her veranda and went inside her house to answer another phone when upon returning realised that her phone was missing.

The matter was reported to the police and Gayle was later pointed out to the Harbour View police by the complainant.

The complainant's phone which was recovered by the police was handed over to her in court.

The BlackBerry is reportedly worth $40,000.
