Tacky on the brink of Headley final

Little known Tacky High have a glorious chance of making their first Grace/ISSA Headley Cup cricket final if they can maintain the upper hand in a battle for first innings honours, in their semi-final match against the more accomplished Vere Technical, at G.C. Foster College today.

Vere is under pressure at 107 for 8 seeking to overcome the 157 posted by Tacky. The game is a two-inning affair but ISSA rules stipulate that the team gaining first innings advantage advances in the event an outright result is not achieved.

topscorer

National youth representative John Campbell has made the most impact scoring 41, but more importantly using his offspin to snare five for 37 so far. Aldane Williams was Tacky's topscorer with 62.

Barring poor weather, this game will be completed today with the winner slated to meet rural cricket kingpins St Elizabeth Technical, who booked their passage with a comprehensive innings and a 149 run win over York Castle at Alpart yesterday.

That semi-final game was over at Alpart five minutes before the scheduled lunch interval, when York Castle failed miserably with the bat again, to be all out for 51. Opener Deechmar Anderson, who had topscored for York Castle with 38 in their first innings total, fell for a duck. Thereafter, it was an unchecked procession of wickets falling around captain Rajni Francis who contributed the only double figure score of 18.

National youth legspinner Donovan Nelson preened himself with five wickets for eight runs, Horane Linton had 2 for 12, with one wicket each to pacers Nicholson Gordon and Omar Samuels. The other wicket to fall went the run-out route.

STETHS added a further 32 runs when they began the day on 241 for 9. Cassius Burton, known more for his bowling, scored an unbeaten 51. Their overwhelming advantage was secured from the opening day when York Castle were skittled out for 73 in 34 overs.

Sheldon Samuels (57), Vaniel Bromfield (64) and Krishna Graham (32) had laid the foundation for STEHS to secure the early first innings advantage. They will now await the winner of the Tacky/Vere semi-final at G.C. Foster College.
