Daring daylight robbery at jewellery store
Crystal Harrison, Star Writer

Three persons posing as police officers pulled off a daring daylight robbery at Tropical Jewellers on Constant Spring Road in St Andrew yesterday morning.

THE STAR understands that the robbers made off with an estimated $50 million worth of jewellery.

No customers were in the store at the time of the incident.

It is reported that about 11 a.m., the three armed persons, two men and a female, entered the jewellery store in Tropical Plaza posing as police officers.

It is further reported that the robbers held up the two on-duty security guards and demanded their guns before robbing the establishment.

No one was hurt in the incident.

According to the store owner, Gordon Tewani, "We are fortunate that no staff was hurt in the incident, but something has to be done about this because these robbers are going right back on the street to sell the jewellery in the cash-for-gold trade. One would think that they were police because they were dressed in police uniform, two males and a female, with their caps down in their faces. They clean out the store and they took mainly heavy stuff like diamond jewellery and solid gold."

The St Andrew Central police are investigating the incident.
