Khan - T&T contemplate legal action |

T&T's Khan - File PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC): Trinidad and Tobago are contemplating legal action after a no-decision in their Regional First-Class Championship semi-final against Jamaica left them without a spot in the final of the competition. Team manager Omar Khan said Monday that the tournament rules on qualification for the final had not been clear, after Jamaica spent almost 21/2 days amassing a record 664 in their first innings, to bat T&T out of the game. "There is still some misinterpretation concerning the rule pertaining to advancing to the finals," Khan said. "The WICB has made it clear that Jamaica would move on to the finals but we have sought legal advice and we are waiting on a determination before we move forward." At the close of the final day on Monday, the Trinidadians had replied with 448 for nine, well short of the total needed for first innings points. Under tournament rules, in the case of a no-decision in a semi-final, the head-to-head meeting during the preliminary round would be used to determine who advanced to the final. Jamaica grabbed first-innings points from T&T in a drawn encounter at Sabina Park last month. the standings However, T&T finished second overall in the standings on 52 points while Jamaica were fourth on 51, a fact Khan said should have featured in the ruling. "We find it very unfair because you could play all season and get 66 points and top the league and you play the fourth-place team with 20 points and they could advance on a no-result, if they got a first innings against us. What is the reward of playing consistent cricket all season then?" he lamented. Combined Campuses and Colleges await Jamaica in the final after they trounced Windward Islands by 157 runs inside three days on Sunday. |
