We will survive - Davis adamant Arnett not in danger despite poor start to final round

Paul 'Tegat' Davis

Despite being clobbered 4-0 by Sporting Central at Brancourt on Sunday, Paul 'Tegat' Davis is adamant two-time Digicel Premier League (DPL) champions Arnett Gardens are in no danger of being relegated.

The repercussions could be adverse if the team popularly identified as the 'Junglists' were to be relegated. However, Davis, who was initially employed with a view to secure a top-six place from the previous round, does not even harbour such thoughts.

Davis doesn't believe too much should be made of the loss at this stage, except that Arnett were culpable gaffe at Brancourt this season.

"We lost a game; it's just that the score was 4-0," Davis said in response to reporters who asked if his team was experiencing late-season decline.

"We prepared well for the game, but whenever we play here something goes wrong, we just lapse. Maybe it is something we need to look into before we get back here next year," a confident Davis said, in brushing off any anxieties about relegation.

psychological

He attempted to explain yet another Brancourt debacle similar to a 3-0 thrashing the Junglist received at the same venue in the second round.

"Maybe it's psychological or because it's a big field, they played in patches, and (were) all over the place not marking or tracking."

On 41 points, just four points above the drop zone, the three-time premier-league champions are not in immediate danger of falling into the relegation zone but have very little room for error. With four games, of yet another troubled top-flight campaign remaining, they are still being tailed by a pack of three teams. One such, Humble Lions, are four points behind and host Arnett this Sunday. If there is any worry it is the fact that Arnett must play three of their remaining four games away.

"We have three more games away, and from my calculation we need six points from those."

Following Sunday's game against Humble Lions, they will travel to St Georges, where they will meet a former coach Geoffrey Maxwell who has staked his reputation on avoiding relegation. They will then host their only game of the round against Benfica, before possibly, the game of the round away to Reno.
