SHELDON WILLIAMS, STAR Writer
'Yesterday' took the '90s vibe to the beach on Sunday night for the inaugural staging of the 'beach edition' of the popular Oldies party at Sugarman's beach in Portmore. The venue and party time might have been new, but the high energy, exciting tradition and legacy continued as patrons flocked to the beach in their numbers, not wanting to miss out on the vibe which the change of venue offered. Patrons, especially females, showed how much they appreciated the 'beach vibe' as they came dressed in their bikinis and other beachwear as they exposed skin and danced up sand, literally, to music selections from the '90s. As is customary for 'Yesterday', men and women danced closely, hardly allowing the breeze coming from the sea to pass between them as they clung to each other and the disc jocks played their favourite tunes. Songs such as No ready fi dis Yet by Tanya Stephens, Rubbers by Frisco Kid and Silent Violence by Beenie Man, all recorded on the 'Joyride' rhythm received excellent feedback from patrons. The ever-popular Backshot, by Spragga Benz and Lady Saw, was also a contagious selection as it was played at least twice throughout the night. Soca selections were also well received by patrons. Ride mi Riddim by Allison Hinds, Follow the Leader by the Soca Boys had patrons in a frenzy. At one point, patrons were seen dancing the macarena as if they had all rehearsed together before the party. Patrons enjoyed themselves as 'Yesterday' pulled off yet another successful staging.
