Carrying on Sugar Minott's legacy, his daughter Fire Pashon has changed her name, plans to release an album for her father and launch a clothing line in his name. Speaking with THE STAR yesterday, Fire Pashon says she has changed her stage name to Pashon Minott, honouring a request that was made by her father before his death, last July at the University Hospital of the West Indies. "A few weeks before my dad passed away he asked me to use my name. Now that he's not here I know why. That's what he wanted me to do so I'm working with it," Pashon said. "The new name, people are taking on to it. They say that's what my name should have been. Most people have been saying I should carry on the legacy." She said she will also be starting a new clothing line in honour of her father. It will be called Ghetto-Ology Clothing, after the name of an album he released in 1979. In addition, she said she would be releasing Raw Sugar, which is an album he was working on at the time of his death. She said the album has songs like Girls and Foundation. "That's what he was doing. He wanted it out so bad. I want to carry it out for him. It was supposed to be released before now but we were so devastated. It has been really rough 'cause daddy was everything, he was the root, the chief," Pashon told THE STAR. She added: "He did a lot for his community in the Kingston 5 area. He was very giving, very loving and everybody loved him. We just have to carry on. People feel like he's still there because they see us. We just have to carry on 'cause there's a legacy. If we don't, it's like daddy's work was in vain." As part of maintaining the legacy, Pashon says efforts are also being made to sort out her father's royalties. However, she said this has been difficult because he has done a lot of work all over the world. Meanwhile, Pashon says she has a new song on Snowcone's new rhythm, 'Snowflakes', called Hush Babymother. She has also released a music video for her song Mek It Inna Life which features her father. She has also been recording with her brothers Andrew, Daniel and Clive, who form the group 3B, and another brother Lincoln Jr who is a solo artiste. Pashon will also be having her birthday party at the Youthman Promotion Studio, which is located at 1 Robert Crescent, Kingston 5, on Friday. She said the admission is a tin of paint as, along with her brothers, she is attempting to refurbish the studio and areas around it. In this bit of work that is being done there, she said the studio equipment are also being changed. |
