Accused health care assistant gets bail extended |

A health care assistant accused of stabbing her brother, who is a policeman, in his eye, had her bail extended until May 4 in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday. Charmaine Martin, 38, from Clarendon, is charged with assault occasioning bodily harm, indecent language, abuse and calumnious language and disorderly conduct. copied and certified An application was made and granted for her passport to be copied and certified by the court so that Western Union could provide information deemed necessary to the case. Allegations are that about two years ago Martin, who was living in England, contacted the complainant and asked him to build a house on her behalf. As such, she sent about $4 million through Western Union over a period of time. The money was used to purchase land and also to build the house. According to the complainant about a year and a half ago, Martin approached him to send through drug mules at the airport because of his association there. He declined the request and later learnt that she used other means and the mules were caught. He claimed Martin contacted him after the failed attempt and accused him of leaking the information and as such said he owed her about $3 million for the expenses of the failed attempt. Martin later returned to Jamaica and on February 8 around 10 a.m., she and her brother were summoned to a meeting at the police commissioner's office to quell the dispute. It is alleged that after a difference of opinion, she pulled a pen and used it to stab the policeman in his eye. |
