Two neighbours who allegedly conspired to use a dead woman's birth certificate in an attempt to smuggle drugs were recently sentenced in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court. They are Sheril Bailey and Sharon Palmer, both from Kingston 13 addresses. Bailey, who has been charged with forgery, uttering forged documents, conspiracy to deceive and false declaration, was sentenced to three years' imprisonment. In the meantime, Palmer, who has been charged with conspiracy to deceive, was fined $50,000 or three months' imprisonment. Allegations are that on March 15, Bailey, who was destined for Trinidad, was arrested at the Norman Manley International Airport. It is alleged that over 40 ganja pellets were found in her wig and her suitcase. According to police reports, when Bailey was arrested, she presented a passport in the name Yanique McKenzie and told the police that this was her name. However, upon checks made by the police, it was discovered that Bailey had conspired with Palmer to use her dead daughter's name. |
