Dynamo target Watson

JeVaughn Watson

HOUSTON, Texas (CMC):

Jamaicans JeVaughn Watson and Jermaine Taylor have become the target of attention for Major League Soccer club Houston Dynamo for different reasons.

Dynamo have reopened talks to acquire Watson, after the player hired new representatives, and will have to medically examine Taylor, after his return from Jamaica's 2-0 loss to Venezuela last weekend.

After negotiations fell apart earlier this year with Watson, the MLS club re-engage in contract discussions.

"We're continuing to carry on conversations with (Watson's representatives) and are working to get a deal done," said Dynamo president of business operations Chris Canetti.

"We think we had a good off season, but we've acknowledged that we're not the finished product. We think the backline has been solidified with the additions we made there, and we're still out there looking for players who can help us on the attacking side."

Watson trialed with Houston in the preseason, appearing in four matches against Houston Baptist University, FC Dallas, Sporting Kansas City, and the Columbus Crew.

The central midfielder was active on the pitch and impressed Dynamo head coach Dominic Kinnear enough to prompt the club to enter into negotiations to bring him to Houston.

But negotiations broke down between the club and the player, following high demands by his previous representative.

Meantime, Taylor is headed back to Houston, and will be evaluated by the team doctors ahead of this weekend's match at New York.
