Centerstage with Lady Saw

Stage name: Lady Saw

Real name: Marion Hall

Date of birth: July 12, 1969

How did you get started in the business?

I began singing in the church on the choir and went straight into the dancehall because of a sister of mine who was in love with dancehall and because at the time I was also living close to the dancehall.

What has been your greatest challenge in the business yet?

Hypocrite friends in fellow entertainers, jealously and so-called friends.

What have you been up to lately?

I've been recording a whole lot and doing some great tracks. I'm also working on my new project, 'Marion Hall presents Alter Ego'.

Do you look up to any specific artiste and why?

Not really, but I admire a lot of artistes such as Beres Hammond, Marcia Griffiths and Queen Ifrica, among many others.

Are you happy with the way things are going for your musical career right now?

Yeah, I'm happy at the moment. It's tricky because I'm happy sometimes and sometimes I'm disappointed. But at the moment I'm very happy.

Do you have any advice for young artistes coming up?

Stay focused and do your best. I used determination to get through, that quality has a lot of strength and power. As long as you're determined, you can do it.

Where do you see yourself in the future?

I would love to see myself with biological children but for the moment ... just chilling out in Jamaica. This is my place!

Ladies! - This is a one-in-a-million chance!

The deejay has worn the crown of the leading female dancehall artiste for a number of years. On Saturday, April 9, THE STAR will be honouring her at Club Impulse, 61 Knutsford Boulevard, New Kingston (upstairs Burger King).

Before Saw gets up and close to you, her loyal fans, there will be performances from the princess of the dancehall, Spice, who will also be gracing the stage.

THE STAR kicked off the Tribute Series by giving accolades to Freddie McGregor last Saturday. Now, we switch gears from Freddie, a soulful singer, to Saw, an act that has matured and blossomed over the years. Known for a catalogue of hits, Lady Saw has been the role model of countless fans and female artistes.

With ladies free all night and Magnum bucket deals all night, it will be a night not to be missed!

Check out The STAR in the upcoming weeks to see details of her tribute performance. Admission for males is $300 and two copies of The STAR!
