Correctional officer returns to court on ganja rap

Sheldon Wright, Star Writer

A correctional officer who allegedly brought ganja to work will return to court on May 30 when his case will again be mentioned.

George Winston Smith, 38, of Garveymeade, St Catherine, is before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on charges of breaching the Correctional Constitutional Act, possession of ganja and dealing in ganja.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and had his $250,000 bail extended.

Allegations are that the complainant was making a regular search of the correctional officer when a black plastic bag containing two brown packages was reportedly found in one of his pockets.

The accused was then brought to the station where he was arrested and charged.
