STUDENT ABUSED FOR FLAG? - School probes incident between teacher and boy |

The father of a male student who is alleged to have been badly beaten by a male teacher for a flag is seeking answers from the school's authorities. THE STAR understands that last Friday, a group of male students mischievously removed a flag from the teacher's vehicle. The incident reportedly occurred at a prominent high school in the Corporate Area. Fifteen-year-old Tomwas allegedly present when the students took the flag and was asked to write a report on who had taken the flag. furious teacher However, it is alleged that because Tom failed to give the names of the students who took the item, the furious teacher used a broom stick and a piece of iron to hit the the youngster several times over his body. As a result, THE STAR understands that the boy had to seek medical attention for the swelling and pain in his hands, feet and other sections of his body. When contacted Tom's* father said that he is awaiting a meeting with the school principal before he makes his next move. "I have received a call from my son's form teacher and I have been to the school, but I was told that the principal is probing the matter, so I am expecting to hear something soon." According to the single father, his son has given him some problems in the past but he wants to know why he was physically abused and what disciplinary action will be taken against the teacher. "I have great respect for the principal and the school, and so I am awaiting an explanation. In the meantime, I am waiting for the medical certificate." Efforts to speak with the principal of the school were futile, as we were informed that he was not in office. However, when the school's dean of discipline was contacted, we were informed that he is aware of the matter, and that it is under investigation. According to the school's dean of discipline, "I have requested a formal report on my desk from the persons involved. I heard some rumours floating around about a flag being stolen in or from a teacher's vehicle; but I am yet to get the details." *name changed |
