A Chinese-Jamaican businesswoman charged with breaches of the Trademark Act had her bail extended in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday. She is Mei 'Helen' He, 38, from a Kingston 5 address, and is to return to court on May 4, when the matter will be mentioned. imitation It is alleged that on November 26, the complainant visited the offices of the Organised Crime Investigation Division and reported that the accused was selling an imitation of his product at her establishment. He claimed to have gathered the information when a customer visited his wholesale and asked why they were selling their product so expensively. He said the customer directed him to Mei He's wholesale where it was being sold cheaper. He further claimed that he acted on the information and sent someone to purchase a bottle of the lotion. When he received the lotion, he realised that there was infringement on the trademark. On November 29, a raid was carried out at Toyus Wholesale, downtown Kingston, and a number of lotions bearing the brand Wistful, suspected to be counterfeit products of the brand Ashley, were seen. Further investigations show that the lotions came in three fragrances like Ashley and the bottle of both brands had the same shape, size and colour coding. The raid resulted in the arrest and charge of the accused. |
