Ministry of Education extends condolences

The Ministry of Education said it shares in the grief now being experienced by the family of Jeremiah Yson, a grade four student at Sts Peter and Paul Preparatory School, who died last Thursday under tragic circumstances.

In a release, the Ministry said it extends condolences to the teachers, administrative staff and the entire school family as they mourn the loss of one of their students. Jeremiah died when a goalpost fell on him while he was playing with other students.

A team of counsellors from the Ministry visited the school on Friday to offer counselling and emotional support to students, teachers and administrative staff, who have been affected by this incident. The counsellors will also offer support to the family of young Jeremiah.

The Ministry said the incident underscores the importance of security and safety and the need for school administrators to ensure that the school plant is safe for students.

"The Ministry of Education continues to insist that all schools adhere to the standards set out in the Security and Safety Policy," the release said.
