A conductor charged for stealing a motor truck was sentenced to two years imprisonment at hard labour when he appeared in court yesterday. The accused man is Damian Williams of a Kingston 13 address. Allegations are that on March 5, about 6:25 a.m. the police were conducting speed and spot checks along the Seville main road, St Ann. A white Isuzu motor truck was signalled to stop, however, the driver failed to comply. The officers then entered the patrol car, called for backup and went in pursuit of the vehicle. Further allegations are that the truck turned onto an open beach and came to a stop. When the truck stopped the accused man is said to have jumped from the truck and ran. The police went in chase of him. When he was accosted he allegedly said, "Offica mi nuh have no license". An investigation was carried out into the matter and it was found that the truck was stolen between March 3 and March 4 from the owner's house. The accused man told the court that he received the truck from his co-worker who asked him to make a delivery. |
