Five men accused of stealing 85 bridge plates from the National Works Agency (NWA) Tarrant Store on Molynes Road, St Andrew were on Thursday remanded and will return to court for trial on April.

Allegations before the court are that on the day of the incident, March 8, about 6 p.m., police who were on patrol, acted on information and intercepted a Bedford truck which had all five men aboard.

The police signalled the vehicle, which was being driven by Meggoe, to stop. The driver complied and the men and the truck, were searched for illegal weapons.

The search reportedly revealed the 85 iron bridge plates that were seen in the back of the truck.

The men were questioned about how they came in possession of the iron bridge plates and they all allegedly confessed to entering the premises of the NWA and removing the items.

Subsequently, the men and the truck carrying the stolen items were taken to the Half-Way Tree Police Station where the complainant later arrived and gave a statement identifying the stolen items.
