Information received by THE WEEKEND STAR is that the boy was on the playing field and was hit in the head when the post fell.

Teachers at the institution were alerted by other students and the injured boy was immediately taken to the University Hospital of the West Indies where he died while undergoing treatment.

When THE WEEKEND STAR visited the Emergency Unit at the hospital, relatives of the boy were seen gathered outside.

A relative told THE WEEKEND STAR that they were there to offer support to the grieving mother of the child as the father had not yet arrived.

Both the principal and vice-principal of the school were also present at the hospital. However, all efforts to receive comments from the mother and the school heads were futile.

The school day ended prematurely following the accident. Inspector Wedderburn of the St Andrew Central police was in charge of the scene.
