Fashion designer and producer Romeich Major has set his eyes on yet another business, as he recently opened a restaurant. Romeich said his restaurant, which is called Romeich Outdoor Restaurant/Di Yaad, is located at 1 Campbell Boulevard, Kingston 11, in the same space where he has his printery, recording studio and sewing facilities. And with over 100 people coming there on a daily basis, he thought it was a good idea. "The main reason for opening the restaurant is that it's a good business to get into. I already do music and clothes that is part of everyday life and everybody has to eat food. Also, I have two close friends who are chefs," he said, noting that the bar and restaurant opened on Monday. Romeich also spoke about the decor of Di Yaad. "It is pretty, it set up nice. I used chrome tiles to do the bar counter, there are barrels and a picket fence. It has a yard feeling. It is a more rugged outdoor feeling and we serve Jamaican food and seafood," he told THE WEEKEND STAR. Some of the things that are on the menu include fried chicken, curried chicken, sliced fish, stewed beef, tripe and beans, potato salad, cole slaw, stewed pork, pepper steak and a host of other Jamaican dishes. And, if there are companies who have a large order of something that is not on the day's menu, Romeich says he is willing to provide it as long as he he is given ample notice. He added that the menu will change every two months. In addition, he said free delivery is offered between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. For the first two weeks, he said the restaurant will be open between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., but after that it will close at 8 p.m. While he enjoys doing what he does, Romeich says this new venture is taxing. "To be honest, I am not used to this. That a mi hardest thing fi manage. But mi like work, mi like being busy. I enjoy doing what I doing," he said, noting that Wisynco is on board as one of its sponsors. Romeic did not plan to do a big restaurant but the end product was exactly that. "I didn't plan fi do something as big as what I did but I guess it's just my personality, I try to do things to the best of my ability," he told THE WEEKEND STAR. |
