Jamaica Broilers ex-employee remanded

A former employee of Jamaica Broilers, Livestock Division, who stole 500 day-old chicks from the company and sold them, was remanded for sentencing in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court recently.

Appearing on a charge of simple larceny is Kevin Levy. He was charged along with Gerald Goode, a customer, who is charged with receiving stolen property. Both men pleaded guilty.

The court heard that Goode went to purchase day-old chicks at Ace Super Centre in White Marl, St Catherine. He was reportedly approached by Levy, who reportedly convinced him to buy the chicks from him for a reduced price.

It was heard that Goode was caught at the gate by security guards, and when his purchase was checked it was observed that there were discrepancies with the price he paid and the number of chicks received.

Further checks revealed that it was Levy who sold him the chicks. The police were called and following investigations, both were later charged.

They are scheduled to return to court for sentencing on May 10. Goode had his bail extended until that date.
