Labourer granted bail

A labourer, charged for maliciously and unlawfully wounding his father, was granted bail in the sum of $30,000 when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday.

Damion Thomas, 28, of a Kingston 11 address, is to return to court on April 13 when the matter will be mentioned.

Allegations are that on February 25, the complainant, Gilbert Thomas, was at a plaza on Hagley Park Road. While there the accused approached him and asked for money.

Further allegations are that after receiving the money the accused continued to follow the complainant asking for more money.

In a bid to avoid his son, the complainant walked across the road. While doing so he said he heard someone calling his name. When he looked around he saw his son coming towards him.

The court heard that the son picked up a grey rubbish bin that was on the sidewalk and used it to hit his father causing injury to his neck.

A group of men who were in proximity and saw what happened started to converge on the accused at which time he ran back to his house and locked himself inside.

The police were summoned and he was arrested.

Thomas told the court that he and his father were having a dispute because his father is an alcoholic.
