A domestic helper who made off with at least $250,000 worth of items belonging to her employer, was sentenced to nine months at hard labour in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court recently. She is Keva White, 36, from a St Elizabeth address. Allegations are that on January 26, the accused was left at the home of the complainant to carry out her function as a domestic helper. After several phone calls to the accused by the complainant had gone unanswered, he went to the house and found that several items were missing. Among the missing items were a laptop, five cellular phones, a digital camera, costume jewellery and a quantity of clothing. The matter was reported to the police and the accused was later arrested. When the sentence was handed down, White broke down in tears and told Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey that she was sorry and she didn't mean to commit the offence. |
