Fake dentist held |

|
A man claiming to be a dentist for over 28 years had his bail extended when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday. He is Osmond Brown, 53, of a Kingston 7 address. He is to return to court on March 25 for sentencing. Allegations are that on January 12, the complainant, acting on recommendation from a friend, visited the establishment of the accused in downtown Kingston. When he entered the dental lab he purportedly told the accused about his problem after which he directed him to sit in the examination chair. The accused, believed to be a real dentist by the complainant, then proceeded to perform a tooth extraction surgery on him. However, the surgery ran into complications and the complainant was left with a swollen face and severe pain. Also, the complainant later discovered that the tooth that should have been extracted was still in his mouth. He went back to the accused who made several attempts to correct the problem, but to no avail. The angry complainant later reported the matter to the police. Upon the completion of investigations, it was found that Brown had no academic record in the field of medicine and he had been practising medicine without a licence. When cautioned by the police about the charge against him, he said, "A 28 years mi a do
this, and nothing like this neva happen." |
