The Police are searching for two men and two women who are said to be behind an ongoing scam targeting persons seeking apartments for rent or lease throughout the Corporate Area.

Since the start of this year, at least three persons have been conned out of their money by the scammers. Since January last year, about eight persons have become victims.

Sergeant Troy Irons from the New Kingston Police Post said, "persons have been going around sourcing apartments via the Internet for their personal use, and in turn, update them in the newspapers and collect rent."

false pretence.

These individuals, he says, are wanted for obtaining money by false pretence.

It is alleged that when an individual expresses interest in an apartment these unsuspecting individuals who use foreign accents usually take them to view the dwellings.

If the person decides to rent one of the apartments, which are usually advertised as furnished or unfurnished on flyers, among other things, they are told to pay the deposit and other rental costs in order to secure the dwelling.

Furthermore, they are told that they will have to wait a few days before they receive a contract. "They are very convincing," he said.

However, after the scammers receive the deposit from the apartment seekers, they are not seen again.

Irons told THE STAR that these individuals are also wanted in other parishes such as St Mary and St Ann.

In the meantime, Sergeant Irons says that investigations continue into the matter.
