Bridgmohan narrowly misses triple

Shaun Bridgmohan

Jamaican reinsman Shaun Bridgmohan narrowly missed out on a triple at Fair Grounds, as the winter meet moved into its final weeks.

Bridgmohan won race two with Firm Resolve and returned to win race nine aboard Miss Inclined but was forced to settle for second with Snow Bandit in the final event of the 10-race programme.

The brace moved the 31-year-old to 65 wins, still second behind leader A. R. Napravnik on 84 wins.

Bridgmohan opened his account over six furlongs when he guided the five-year-old bay gelding Firm Resolve to victory by a whopping 14 lengths.

He stalked the leader Buckwild over the first quarter before sweeping to the front on the turn and drew away to win handily under a vigorous hands-ride.

Bridgmohan's second win came in the 5-1/2 furlong sprint for the thoroughbred three-year-old fillies when he carved out a 1-1/4 length win with the 8-1 bet Miss Inclined.

He chased the leader Bagmyfable from the break and snatched the lead in the final furlong after Bagmyfable broke down near the 16th pole.

In race 10 over six furlongs, Bridgmohan survived a bump at the start to race the 4-1 bet Snow Bandit off the pace before grabbing the lead in the final 16th.

Odds-on favourite After the Fact, with Napravnik in the saddle, produced a late run, however, to win by half length.

The season at the southern United States racetrack winds up on March 27.
