Jamaica batsman Marlon Samuels and Combined Campuses and College (CCC) off-spinner Ryan Austin will today seek to bring their 'A' game as they seek to give their teams a positive start on day one of their West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Regional Four-day tournament clash at Chedwin Park, St Catherine. As the tournament's leading run scorer and wicket-taker, respectively, both players have been in sterling form this season, with Samuels, who recently turned down an offer from the WICB to join the West Indies at the on-going ICC World Cup in India, recording an impressive 595 runs in seven innings at an average of 99.16, including three centuries. Austin, in the meantime, has so far taken 18 wickets at a good average of 23.3, including a seven-wicket haul against the England Lions in his team's last game. unbeaten record The showdown, which is slated to get under way at 10 a.m. each day, will also see leaders Jamaica going all out to maintain their unbeaten record, while for the developmental CCC team, who have so far recorded minor upset wins over the Leeward and Windward Islands, the aim will be to continue their giant-killing act. "It should be a good contest as the CCC are known to be a fighting team and has been playing some good cricket," said Jamaica's captain Tamar Lambert, following the team's final training session yesterday. "But having said that, we have been playing consistent cricket as well, and with the type of players we have, and home crowd support, I am confident that we can get the desired result we want." third highest Jamaica, who have played four games so far and have notched up a two-win, two-draw record, including two first innings results, will in addition to Samuels look to leg-spinner Odean Brown, the tournament's third highest wicket-taker with 17 scalps, in their quest for victory. Other batsmen who could make life difficult for the CCC are batsmen Brendan Nash, Danza Hyatt, Simon Jackson and Lambert, who have all scored half-centuries thus far. As it relates to their bowlers, with front-line pacer Jerome Taylor out due to the death of his grandmother, much will be expected of pacers Andrew Richardson, David Bernard Jr and Jason Dawes, with Lambert providing able support with his deceptive part-time off-spin. The CCC, in the meanwhile, in addition to Austin will look to in-form 20-year-old middle-order batsman Kyle Corbin, who is presently fifth in the batting standing having scored 323 runs at an average 40.37, including a century and three half-centuries. Batting all-rounder Nkrumah Bonner and middle-order batsman, Shacoya Thomas, who are both Jamaicans, could also feature in the CCC team given the former's good all-round form and the fact that they are playing at home. "We are not too concerned about Jamaica at the moment, as we have been playing some good cricket and once we continue to do that we should be very competitive," said CCC captain, Omar Phillips, in a recent interview.
