Dad explains attack on daughter

A father pleaded guilty with explanation to assaulting his daughter when he faced the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Devon McLaughlin from a Kingston 14 address, who is charged with assault occasioning bodily harm, is set to return to court on April 27.

In his defence, McLaughlin told the court that he had to act in self-defence as his daughter attacked him with a knife on the day of the incident.

Allegations before the court are that the defendant's 17-year-old daughter was walking to school about 7:30 a.m. on Monday, April 19 of last year, when the defendant followed her.

The defendant reportedly had a piece of electrical wire in his possession which he used to beat the complainant all over her body causing injuries.

Following investigations by the police, the defendant was arrested and charged.
