A man accused of breaking into a storeroom at Crichton Automotive Limited and attempting to steal several bottles of diesel and motor oils valuing $20,900 was remanded until March 14 yesterday.
The defendant, Albert McDermott, who is of no fixed address, appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court charged with storeroom breaking and larceny. Allegations are that on February 25, about 2 a.m., a security guard on duty heard strange noises coming from the back of the building. He then became suspicious and alerted members of the Hawkeye Security response team for assistance. When the response team arrived, they reportedly searched the premises which led them to the opened door of the storeroom which had several goods and other car accessories inside. The security team then entered the storeroom where McDermott was reportedly caught with a number of stolen items in his possession. The items reportedly included, 46 quart bottles of motor oil and a gallon bottle of Delo 400 motor oil among other things. The police were called and McDermott was then escorted to the Hunts Bay Police Station. |
