Five held for attempted robbery

SHELDON WILLIAMS AND SHELDON WRIGHT, STAR Writers

Four men and a woman are now in police custody following investigations into the attempted robbery of a female motorist recently.

Information received by THE WEEKEND STAR is that the incident took place last week after the woman had just exited a bank in New Kingston.

Shortly afterwards, she became suspicious after she noticed a Suzuki Swift motor car following her along her route as she drove along.

The woman then alerted the police from her cellphone and was instructed to proceed to a popular supermarket in Cross Roads, where she waited for their arrival.

THE WEEKEND STAR understands that upon the arrival of the police the occupants of the Suzuki motor car were questioned before they were taken into police custody on suspicion of their intent to rob the female motorist.

However, the occupants of the car reportedly denied that they were following the woman as they said that they had just arrived from the airport and were going about their lawful business when they were arrested.

THE WEEKEND STAR also understands that two of the men who were travelling in the Suzuki motor car at the time are known to be thieves.

Investigations are in progress. The Cross Roads police confirmed the incident.
