A police constable accused of assaulting a woman with the intent to rape her while he was on a joint police/military foot patrol recently was granted $100,000 bail in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday. As a result of his bail, Jerome Arscott had to surrender his travel documents and a stop order was put in place. Arscott returns to court on March 12. Allegations are that about 5 p.m. on February 2, Arscott was a member of a police/military team on patrol in Elletson Flats, St Andrew. It is alleged that the team went to the complainant's house where they got permission to enter her premises and pick ackee. It is alleged that the team entered her house and all but Arscott proceeded to the rear of the premises. The court heard that Arscott allegedly began pulling the woman, against her will, into the direction of her living room while making several attempts to kiss and fondle her. Reportedly, she managed to escape and ran to the other members of the team for assistance, but they laughed at her in disbelief. It was further heard that Arscott emerged from the house and pulled the complainant back into the house where he continued to sexually assault her. It was also learnt Arscott reportedly stopped his assault on the woman after she allegedly accused him of being a rapist while he tried to penetrate her. A report was later made to the Centre for Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse and upon the completion of an investigation, Arscott was taken into custody on February 24. Arscott was later ordered to be charged by the director of public prosecutions on March 7. |
