Leg-spinner Odean Brown and fast bowler Andrew Richardson will undergo fitness tests today to assess their readiness for Jamaica's crucial West Indies Cricket Board Regional Four-day Tournament fifth-round clash against the Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) at Chedwin Park, St Catherine starting on Friday. Brown, who has been Jamaica's leading spin bowler over the past three seasons is suffering from a shoulder injury, while Richardson is struggling with some discomfort in his side. The 29 year-old Brown picked up the injury during Jamaica's second-round clash with Barbados but went on to play against the Windward and Leeward Islands, while Richardson picked up his injury during the Leewards game. "They both went to visit the doctor (Dr Akshai Mansingh) last week, and he was confident that they would be able to make it in time for the CCC game," said Jamaica's manager, Jimmy Adams. "However, we the coaching and management staff, will have to assess them during training tomorrow to see if they will be fit and ready for the encounter." Brown is currently the third leading wicket-taker in the tournament with 17 scalps, while Richardson, who is also 29, has proved to be a valuable ally of Jerome Taylor since gaining his first cap of the season against Barbados. Taylor has so far taken 14 wickets, and is ninth in the overall standings, four behind the CCC's Ryan Austin, who leads the standings with 18 wickets. Jamaica with a two-wins and two- draws record, including two first innings points, lead the the seven-team championship with 36 points. Trinidad and Tobago, 33, and England, 30, come next, with the CCC, who have in their line-up young Jamaican batsmen, Nkrumah Bonner and Shacoya Thomas, rounding off the top four with 27 points. Meanwhile, should either Brown or Richardson be unable to suit up for the CCC game, it could lead to an opening for reserves, 31 year-old off-spinner, the economical Bevon Brown, who is yet to get a game this season or left-arm pacer Sheldon Cotterell, who made his debut against Guyana, but has since been overlooked. Jamaica's selection committee, headed by chairman Ruddy Williams, should they opt for an attacking spinner, could also call up 23 year-old left-arm wrist spinner Dennis Bulli, or 19 year-old leg-spinner Akeem Dewar, both of whom were standouts during the team's trial matches, but failed to make the squad.
