A man who is accused of stealing a gold chain valued at $20,000 was remanded when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday. He is David Duffus, 40, from a Kingston 10 address, charged with larceny and assault at common law. Duffus pleaded not guilty to the charge, and is to return to court on March 30 for trial. Allegations are that on January 8, the complainant was sitting in a taxi along Eastwood Park Road, Kingston, when a man grabbed her gold chain from her neck and ran. He was accosted by a police corporal who was in proximity and saw what happened. Further allegations are that the man pulled a knife and tried to make an escape. The corporal then pulled his licensed firearm and fired two shots in the direction of the accused, who ran and jumped into a nearby gully. The area was searched and Duffus was found with his left foot broken. He was rushed to the Kingston Public Hospital for treatment. He was later charged. |
