A 12-year-old boy was killed yesterday evening after he was hit by a Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) bus near his home as he played close to the roadway.

Police reports indicate that the incident took place around 6:45 p.m. at the intersection of South Camp Road and Tower Street.

"The whole community did a cry, everybody love the likkle boy," a woman who knew him well, told THE STAR.

Information reaching THE STAR is that the boy, Ricardo Green, more affectionately known as Chinna Man, was playing among a group of friends when he attempted to run across the road but was hit by the bus.

Alleged eyewitnesses told THE STAR that the impact propelled Green into the air and flung him metres away.

head injuries

Police reports confirm that Green was later taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where he died from head injuries.

"We did inna the yaad and we hear boop and then one man come up an seh Chinna Man dead," a neighbour told THE STAR.

THE STAR understands that after the incident, the driver of the bus surrendered himself to the Elletson Road Police Station.

When THE STAR visited the community of Paradise Garden where Green lived, his mother was too distraught to talk and had to be comforted by friends.

At the same time, those who knew him well were overcome with disbelief as they were overheard discussing his sudden death.

Green's aunt who gave her name as Shelly-Ann explained to THE STAR that she was the last to see him alive.

"A me last see him and mi gi him $100 pon the bridge an tell him gwaan round," she recounted.

Shelly later told THE STAR in a broken voice that Green was an excellent student and was looking forward to sitting his GSAT exams in a few weeks.
