Rasbert Turner, Star Writer The failure of a witness to point out a policeman accused of rape, resulted in his release from custody on Sunday, 16 days after he was arrested. His release followed an order by a Resident Magistrate that investigators charge or free the accused. On Friday, a Habeas Corpus application was made before Resident Magistrate Simone Wolfe-Reece. It was revealed to THE STAR that the policeman was freed at 11 a.m. on Sunday. "My client was released after a judge made an order that he be charged by Monday and if there wasn't sufficient evidence he should be released," attorney-at-law Courtney Maxwell said. He said the policeman was among five police constables accused of raping an exotic dancer at the Attitude Night Club, Damhead, St Catherine. THE STAR was informed that the four other policemen are still in custody. It was alleged that a police party conducted a raid at the club and the policemen took turns
raping the exotic dancer. |
