A policeman is recovering from machete wounds at home while his machete wielding attacker is at the morgue following an incident at the Morgan's Bridge Police Station in Grange Hill, Westmoreland, on Tuesday evening.

The constable was reportedly conducting station duties at the station's guardroom about 6 p.m. when a man identified as Richard Drisdale, a 38-year-old farmer of Geneva in the parish, entered the room.

Drisdale, who was carrying a machete, immediately began chopping at the constable who, in his bid to escape, sustained wounds to both legs. The policeman reportedly opened fire at his attacker who was not deterred by the first shot and continued advancing and swinging his machete.

It is reported that the policeman fired another shot at his attacker who fell to the ground.

Both men were taken to the Savanna-la-Mar Hospital where Drisdale died while undergoing treatment while the constable, who was given 10 stitches to his legs, was treated and released.

Investigators are yet to ascertain the motive behind this attack.
