Teen faces court for assaulting 17-month-old Rasbert Turner, Star Writer A Portmore woman who is facing assault charges arising from damage done to a 17-month-old child is set to reappear in court on Tuesday. The teenager was charged late last year after the mother of the infant left the child in her care. It was revealed in court that the mother went on an errand and returned to find the child in great distress and severe pain. Allegations are that the accused told the mother, the child fell from the bed and hit its head. The mother then rushed the child to seek medical attention. more severe than a fall Medical personnel after examination revealed that the child's injuries were more severe than a fall and were more consistent with the shaking syndrome (when a person shakes a baby violently). The court learn the child now suffers from impaired vision as a result of the injured. An attorney who appeared for the accused said a proper medical document is needed in the case for the accused to get justice. The accused has maintained her innocence throughout her appearances in court. |
