A minibus which travels the Downtown to Waterhouse route plunged over the Mother White Bridge on Spanish Town Road after it collided with a Honda motor car yesterday afternoon, resulting in 18 people being hospitalised.

When THE STAR arrived on the scene, scores of persons gathered in an attempt to get a glimpse of the wreckage as the police cordoned off the area.

The Honda motor car could also be seen wrapped around the bridge's railing, as a part of the railing penetrated the windscreen from the impact of the accident.

The bus lay on the floor of the gully under the bridge surrounded by broken glass as the windows and windscreens were smashed completely after the fall.

"No man! ... Nobody cyah live inna that," one onlooker commented as she stared at the wreckage.

An alleged eyewitness also explained to THE STAR that one survivor from the crash had to escape through one of the bus windows.

"A yute weh did deh pon the bus, a jump him jump through the bus window fi save him life," he remarked.

Another alleged eyewitness then described to THE STAR that the female driver of the Honda motor car may have been responsible for the collision.

"The car a come from over here ... and she just come across the road and the bus swing away from her and end up inna the gully ... and she end up inna the iron," he explained, as he pointed to the wreckage.

Up to press time, the police indicated that they had received reports that the two vehicles collided after the motor car tried unsuccessfully to make a U-turn in the road to travel in the opposite direction.

However, they were unable to confirm as investigations were still in progress.

Those hospitalised are being treated at the Kingston Public Hospital.
