Jamaica's sprint sensation Usain Bolt will aim to continue his hot streak at the London 2012 Olympic Games, when athletics competition gets under way on August 3 in the England capital. Bolt, 24, who at the 2008 staging captured three gold medals, establishing world record marks in all three events, will first contest the first round of the men's 100m. He is expected to defend his 100m title two days later, when both the semi-finals and finals will be contested. The cost for the high-end tickets to enter the stadium will be a whopping J$98,433.25 (£725), while the lowest ticket cost goes for J$6,788.50 (£50), based on the exchange rate posted by the Bank of Jamaica yesterday. The finalist in the 400m for women will also grace the track on the third day. Bolt will, however, be preceded by his compatriot and defending champion of the female equivalent Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, who should contest the final on the fourth. That event will cost patrons between J$6,788.50 (£50) and J$61,096.50 (£450) to view the race. The fifth day could see current world champion Brigitte Foster-Hylton take to the track in the 100m hurdles for women. Jamaica will be looking to rack up the medals on the eighth, when the 110m hurdles final for men, the 200m final for women and the 400m hurdles for women will all be contested. Defending champion Melaine Walker is expected to line up in the latter of the three races. Two-time defending 200m women's champion, Veronica Campbell-Brown, will also commence the defence of her title, when she lines up in the 200m finals. Bolt could then be looking to wrap up the double on the ninth when he goes in the 200m finals. The 800m final for men will also run off in the evening session. Jamaica will hope for an improved showing in the 4x400m relay for men on the 10th, which is the penultimate day. The country will be expectant when the females hope to bring the baton around safely in the 4x100m finals. The final day should see Jamaica go on the hunt in four finals, the 4x100m relay for men, the 4x400m relay for men, the 4x400m relay for women and the 800m for women. |
