UTech record 511-run win over Exed |

FRESH off their triumph in last month's UTech Twenty/20 cricket Classics, where they were unbeaten, the University of Technology cricket team was in devastating form last Saturday, recording a record 511-run victory over Exed Community College in the opening match of the Jamaica Intercollegiate Cricket Association (JISA) 50 overs a side competition. After batting first, the UTech team amassed a record 569 for five declared in their allotted 50 overs, then blew away their rivals for 58 when they went to bat. Following their good form in the UTech Twenty/20 Classics, batsmen Brian Clarke, Jon Ross Campbell and Jeffrey Scott picked up where they left off as they all scored centuries. unbeaten Clarke led the way with an unbeaten 160 while Campbell was also not out with 156. The right-handed Scott made 133 before retiring hurt. Oneil Donaldson two for 77 off 10 overs and Roshane McBean two for 103 off seven overs were the top wicket takers for Exed. When Exed made their reply to UTech's massive score, they had no answer to the UTech bowlers. Only Akeem Sinclair made double figures as he top-scored with 14. Ransford Merchant was the top bowler for the victors with six for eight off four overs, while Christie Jones two for three off 2.1 overs and Ricardo Williams two for one off four overs took the remaining wickets. In the other Zone 'A' match on the same day, defending champions Mico defeated the University of the West Indies by six wickets in a low-scoring game. Scores in the match were UWI 43 all out and Mico 44 for four. |
