Harbour View nip Arnett
Ryon Jones, Star Writer

Arnett Gardens were let down by two of their more senior players yesterday, as they lost 5-4 on penalties to Harbour View in the Jackie Bell Knockout final, at the Edward Seaga Complex, after playing to a 1-1 scoreline after full and extra time.

Arnett Gardens took a well-deserved lead through Dennis McKinley in the 73rd minute, but Andre Steele found the equaliser for Harbour View a minute into added time.

The Junglist totally dominated possession in the first half and for most of the second half, but had to wait until the 73rd minute to get on the scoresheet.

McKinley collected a pass on the edge of the Harbour View area before turning two defenders and slotting home.

The team suffered a major blow in the 87th minute when they were reduced to 10 players. Gerald Neil, who had picked up a silly yellow card in the first half for an off-the-ball foul on Lamar Nelson, committed his second bookable offence and was ejected.

Harbour View pushed everything into attack and were rewarded in the first minute of added time, when a long ball into the area was flicked on by Decoy Williams and substitute Steele popped up unmarked at the back post to head home.

penalty shoot-out

The goal sent the game into extra time and eventually a penalty shoot-out. Arnett's Ramsey was first up and he easily converted his kick. Lennox Creary responded for Harbour View with an equally easy conversion. It was then the turn of Arnett's veteran, Kevin 'Pele' Wilson, who was brought on as a substitute in extra time. His kick was, however, well saved by Harbour View's custodian, Michaud Barrett, diving to his right. This turned out to be the deciding moment as all the other kickers converted, resulting in Harbour View coming away 5-4 winners.

"I think we just came up short in terms of the penalty shoot-out and we lapsed a little to make them equalise," Arnett's coach, Paul 'Tegat' Davis said.

Harbour View's coach Donovan Hayles explained the reason for his team's turn around in the second half.

"I told them that we must make chances going forward and I thought they came out and responded well to that."
